Avalanches and rock, mud and land slides in Norway
This is a book documenting the history of the most important mudslides, avalanches and rock and land slides that have struck Norway during the past five centuries. In Norway, land and rock slides and avalanches are the most common and most serious natural disasters. We recommend reading this exciting book on Norwegian land and rock slide and avalanche history.

Almost 2500 people have died as a result of rock slide and avalanche accidents during the past two centuries. This book provides an overview of mudslides and landslides, avalanches, and rock slides, as well as subsea slides in Norway during the past five centuries.
The book covers the Gauldal land slide which killed about 500 people in 1345, the mud slide in Verdal which killed 116 people in 1893, the Lone accidents in 1905 and 1935 and the disaster in Tafjord in 1934. In addition to the factual details and the historical photos from the various disasters, the author portrays people’s experiences and reactions to these dramatic events.
The book builds on the information the author Astor Furuseth has collated from about 3500 land, rock and mud slides as well as avalanches all over Norway. This work was funded by NGU, the Geological Survey of Norway, and is part of the national database on mud, rock and land slides and avalanches.
